Halloween Covid Style

Pumpkin, pumpkin along the wall, who's the cutest of them all? Yes, I am biased when it comes to my grandkids, so I'd have to pick Finn!
Halloween is certainly different this year and not all neighborhood streets are permitted to be open for business. Anticipating this possibility for this little one, I came a knocking at his door with enough Halloween goodies to create one humdinger of a party. Finn had a blast setting the table, decorating cupcakes, giving everyone a different color cat hat, filling each plate with goodies, and of course, lots of activities to keep him busy for the two hours spent celebrating Halloween, Covid style...indoors and no guests. Although, we did invite his bestest and furriest friends, Raccoon and Kermit, both hand puppets and amenable to anything we wanted to do. The party ended on a happy note with enough left-overs to play out and play over for several days to come. And...he is doing just that!
It's always fun finding ways to overcome obstacles, especially when it comes to our kiddos.
I've included a few links below for more ideas to help create an enjoyable Halloween experience this year!

Halloween 2011

"Toy Story's" Woody, the always popular Superman, Ducky, Miss Ladybug, King Midas, and two lovely, twin fairies came together this year, for a pre-Halloween party at the park.  This adorable group of celebrities honored us grown-ups with their presence, and brought enough enthusiasm to keep the celebration moving until lunchtime.  They kept busy coloring, playing with clay, bubbles, chalk and with each other. What we didn't include in the festivities was "sugar." We figured they would have their fill trick-or-treating later that day. Halloween stickers, ghoulish finger puppets and rings replaced the sweets without a problem!
Best,
Bubbie, Jude and the neighborhood kidlets, too!

Choosing Halloween Costumes for Infants

On the heels of my latest post on 'Jude and dressing-up for imaginative play,' I was delighted to find this picture of my grand daughter Katie trying on Halloween costumes.  Although she's not old enough for dress-up play, her mother sure is! Fortunately, we still have some time before Halloween is here, so I'm sure there will be many more costume fittings and picture sittings to come!
P.S. Send in some pics of your grandkids/kids in costumes.  I'd be happy to post them!
Best,
Bubbie and Katie, too!

Halloween Costumes and Treats

In the jungle, the mighty jungle, this little lion will surely sleep good tonight !  Trick-or treating takes a lot out of a little guy!  Preparing since early afternoon, mommy and daddy cleaned and decorated the house, ordered pizza for friends and family, filled the jack-o'-lantern with candy, and in between answered the door for trick-or-treaters while dressing Jude in his lion costume.  (Costume choices came down to dog, lion or cat, because...you guessed it...those are the animal sounds Jude knew best!)  Of course Jude started his house-to-house journey walking, and very soon after wanted to be carried.
Hmm...On second thought this little lion's mommy and daddy will surely sleep tonight!
Happy Halloween to all of you grown-ups who worked so hard making it memorable and fun for your sweethearts...Bubbie

Trick or Treat!

Looking through old costumes , and putting together new ones, started weeks before Halloween when I was a kid.  We were big into detail, so make-up or masks were as important as how we dressed.  It was a good thing too, because growing up on the East coast was pretty cold by the end of October, and we were not allowed to trick-or-treat  without wearing a big, old, heavy coat which covered-up our Halloween costumes!  Living in sunny California was much different for my children, and is for my grandson.  None of that, taking off the coat to show everyone how cute you looked, after entering every house...then having to put the coat back on before you went to your next "candy" pick-up station.  This process ate into our precious time for hitting as many houses as possible before the dreaded porch lights were turned off!  Now-a-days there's another choice besides neighbors homes...shopping malls!  Many shopping malls offer a safe, fun, and easy way to trick-or-treat!  Parents can bring their kids to most stores in a mall to receive a treat.  Go to a participating indoor mall and weather's never an issue!
I'll probably dress in a costume this year, and walk alongside my grandbaby so I can relive some Halloween memories without the coat and more of the treats!
Boo-bye,
Bubbie
P.S. Share your favorite Halloween memories!
